the National Conservatory of Nantes. He studied basic harmony and

participated in the improv classes of Myra Melford and Fred Frith. He has a
vivid interest for computer based music, new interfaces for musical
expression, and can sometimes be a geek, which led him to design and
experiment with his own interactive instruments and interfaces.Sylvain holds a double diploma in Engineering/Master of Science from ESME, Paris/King's College, London and DEA in Acoustics, Computer Science and Signal Processing from Ircam/ENST/Paris 6 University. home |
::Maarten Grachten::
Maarten Grachten (The Netherlands, 1976) started playing guitar at age
ten, and took both classical and electric guitar lessons for several
years. From 1989 to 2001 he has played guitar and drums in various
rock/experimental groups, often with a focus on improvisation.
Furthermore, he was involved in the organisation of the Open Electronic
Festival in Groningen (the Netherlands) in 1999 and 2000. After
completing a BSc/MSc degree in Artificial Intelligence at the
University of Groningen (with a final project on computational jazz
improvisation), he moved to Barcelona (Spain) in 2001, in order to
start a PhD on the analysis of expressivity in jazz music, at Pompeu
Fabra University.Personal note: I desire music that can both explode in your face, and move cautiously like a cat on a rooftop. It should turn your thoughts towards inside, but also make you laugh. Crumble has the tickling creaks of modern electronics, and it has the consolatory sounds of physical instruments. It touches the ethereal with the vulgar. I think Crumble pick up their instruments to chase dreams. home |
