HD-prototype-1 is a prototype for an interactive installation using sound and sensor system. Once the participant enters the room, they hear a soft motor sound from a hair dryer lying on a small table. As they grab it, the sound changes and the participant's hand gesture interacts with the sound's amplitude. This project is inspired by the artist's everyday experience of using a hair dryer. The violent character of wild motor sound and hot wind transforms into a shy "alien"s whispering to the participant. Resonance, wind from the motor and sounds from 2 speakers build spacial layers together inside of the shell. HD-prototype-1 is composed of a hair dryer shell, a fan with a motor, a photocell sensor, two speakers, recorded sounds and SuperCollider code. The photocell sensor built in its handle detects the participant's grabbing gesture. SuperCollider controls trigger action and the sound changes in response to the quantity of light detected by a photocell sensor. |
