DXARTS 473: Mechatronic Art, Design and Fabrication III

Journal Guidelines (PDF)

1. Abstract/ Conceptual Overview
-1 short paragraph, what's the project about? avoid tech description

2. Time plan
-be realistic in 10 weeks, what're the knowns/ unknowns?

3. State Diagram
-project description in graphical presentation
-input/ output/ process
-hints, good shareware for diagram (OmniGraffle)

4. Research Methodology
-how will you know people will response in a particular way?
-what's new about what you're doing?
-how do you guarantee a contribution?
-theory & practice, what's the relationship between your idea & the actual work
-how do you get from one to the other?
-how will you answer the questions/ challenges of your concept?
-why is "this" method the most appropriate?
-what else have you tried/ seen?

5. Historical Background
-origins/ influences
-90/ 10 balance

6. Bibliography
-related books, theories, films, etc.
-technical references
-URLs (not just!)

7. Mechanics
-how will your project function?
-moving parts? construction? material?

8. Fabrication Issues
-Diagrams, sketches,
-G-code, 3D models?

9. Electronics & Circuits
-Arduino, components
-Diagrams, PCB layout

10. Code
-comment properly
-published everything
-versions, system requirements
