Assignment: compose a 3 to 5 minute piece (only upper duration bound is flexible :) using sound synthesis and algorithmic composition techniques covered in class. Your piece should aesthetically reflect the class' listening and reading assignments, serving the works you had analyzed as a frame of reference for your composition. In other words, this shouldn't be a "free-style" exercise, but a thorough experimental composition based on the concepts and ideas presented in class. We recommend you start by developing a plan for you piece. Drawing a timeline similar to the one you turned in with your listening assignments but with an overall description of the sections of your piece with their tentative duration and content could be a good starting point for your work.
Deadline: projects are due on Monday, December 10 by 5PM.
Final projects listening session will be on Tuesday, December 11 at 4:30 in room 117.
You should turn in only files containing your SC code, NO SCORE FILES. Your file must contain a main call to a function that generates the SC score for your whole piece. Your SC code will be tested by us as part of your grade, so please be sure you comment your code clearly for us to understand it at a glance.
At the head of your file, write a brief program note to your piece explaining what your goals were and how you achieved them using the techniques you picked. During the listening session you will have to briefly introduce your piece to the class before we play it.
How to turn your final in:
Your file should be called "YourLastName_461_final.sc", this file should be in the 461 Dropbox by the deadline.
You should also burn a CDr with a sound dfile of your piece (called "YourLastName_461_final.aiff"), you should use SC's NRT to render it in AIFF format (mono or stereo), 16 bits, 44100 Hz Sampling Rate. You should label your CD with your name and turn it in to the TA by the deadline.
