The course will be organized along the lines of any unorthodox,
wildly experimental independent film production course...
THE 9-WEEK FILM PRODUCTION
Summer quarter runs a short 9 weeks, from June 20th to August 19th.
The first 4 weeks will be devoted to intense training and preproduction. During
these weeks, a trilogy of short films will be produced by smaller groups of
students, all students will be trained in the basics of lighting, camera operation,
and non-linear editing, all aspects of design and set construction will be
initiated and progressed, the story treatment will be broken down into a shooting
script, and the shoot will be scheduled.
The last five weeks will be devoted
to the actual production (shooting) of the feature film, whle ongoing set
construction continues according to the demands of the schedule.
THE FILMMAKING TEAM
The students, instructor, and TAs will work together according
to the structure of a classic film crew, each person occupying a
unique role, analogous to a real-world
job on a film crew. However, in addition to their specialized
roles, each student will have the opportunity to rotate through
several other crew positions, gaining a broader experience.
For more information, please proceed to student
roles.
PROFESSIONAL MENTORS & CONSULTANTS
Several local film industry professionals have agreed to help
out by giving master classes, consulting, and even providing one-on-one
mentorship to students specializing in their fields.
