DXARTS 456 — Course Organization

The course will be organized along the lines of any unorthodox, wildly experimental independent film production course...

THE 9-WEEK FILM PRODUCTION

Summer quarter runs a short 9 weeks, from June 20th to August 19th.

  • The first 4 weeks will be devoted to intense training and preproduction. During these weeks, a trilogy of short films will be produced by smaller groups of students, all students will be trained in the basics of lighting, camera operation, and non-linear editing, all aspects of design and set construction will be initiated and progressed, the story treatment will be broken down into a shooting script, and the shoot will be scheduled.
  • The last five weeks will be devoted to the actual production (shooting) of the feature film, whle ongoing set construction continues according to the demands of the schedule.

  • THE FILMMAKING TEAM

The students, instructor, and TAs will work together according to the structure of a classic film crew, each person occupying a unique role, analogous to a real-world job on a film crew. However, in addition to their specialized roles, each student will have the opportunity to rotate through several other crew positions, gaining a broader experience.
For more information, please proceed to student roles.

    PROFESSIONAL MENTORS & CONSULTANTS

Several local film industry professionals have agreed to help out by giving master classes, consulting, and even providing one-on-one mentorship to students specializing in their fields.
