DXARTS 456 — Course Description

UW & DXARTS are pleased to present DXARTS 456 Summer Film Production Studio, a full-term (6/20 - 8/19), 15-credit intensive filmmaking course in which 25 students will work together alongside their instructor and TAs to make a feature film, from its design and development to its completion. Students will specialize in various roles on the production team while at the same time rotating through a wide range of other crew positions in order to gain a broader experiential grounding in filmmaking.

This is the first instantiation of the DXARTS 456 Production Studio, a unique new course that provides interdisciplinary groups of students opportunities to develop many specialized skills needed in the production of various large-scale collaborative art projects. Students will act as integral parts of a full scale, collaborative team, working to realize a large-scale, intensive art project from design and development, through completion. Topics vary and are announced during the preceding quarter, examples include cross-disciplinary major art installations and feature-length cinematic works. See Time Schedule.

The course is open to undergraduate, graduate, and non-matriculated students. No previous filmmaking experience is required, but experience—or a passionate desire to learn—in one or more of the following areas is recommended:
Cinematography; set, lighting, costume, & production design; editing; compositing; PR; accounting; HR management, production management and organization, performing and fine arts, sound design and audio engineering, architecture & construction; storytelling; and more... it takes a wide range of skills working in concert to make a film!

Admission is by application only. Applications were due on May 20.
