Create a 90 second, in-camera edited, silent B/W experimental study of "light and shadow." Must feature an experimental optical in-camera effect such as camera obscura, heat distortion, split-screen using mirrors, glass mattes, etc.
14 day project completion cycle.

ASSIGNMENT 2 : APPROPRIATE, RECONTEXTUALIZE
Create new visual and thematic relationships by cutting together shots
from found sources, including online archival footage, television, film, home movies, etc.
Max duration 2:00.
Only prerecorded sound allowed.

FINAL/ASSIGNMENT 3 : PERSONAL MYTHOLOGIES - FAIRY TALES
Referring to our discussions on mythology and using the Fairy Tale as a model for narrative, graphical, and psycological devices, you will author or adapt a short film. Students will give progress reports on key production elements: ideation, authoring, storyboarding, cinematography, and editing.
Being the final, this assignment is absolutely open to interpretation, and I invite studens to imagine and propose and independent project:
Stdents will create an independent project while exploring their own definitions of Video Art. Traditional narrative formats, performance-based, multi-channel, interactive, reactive, creative documentary, and sculptural interpretations of video are a few of the possibllities for this assignment.
Durations should be in the 4-7 minute range (flexible if pursuing alternative formats)
