INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING THE RENDER FARM

First make sure your .mb file has had its global render settings checked, and they look just as you want them to. For example check resolution, renderer, file format, camera etc. The render farm will use Maya's render settings when it renders your frames for everything. Do a test render of just one of your frames to make sure that the render globals are set to your liking. You will have a chance to alter the number of frames to render and your render resolution before sending your job to the renderfarm.

Connect to the DxArts network. In a web browser of your choice open the following link: http://dxrender.local:8080/DXRenderFarm/ You will be asked to verify the sites certificates, so go ahead and accept them in the windows that pop up.

Your login is the same as your UWid and your initial password is also your UWid. The first time you log in you need to change your password. You password does not need to be the same as your UW account.

Next, you need to create a folder for yourself on the renderfarm server. From your applications bar select the finder.

Next select Go to Folder from the Go menu.

In the window that pops up type in "/render", then select Go.

A new folder will appear in your finder that contains all of the renderfarm user folders.

Inside the "render" folder you need to create two directories. The first directory needs to the same as your UWid login. Inside the directory you've just created, create another directroy called "projects".

Now copy your Maya project folder from your local or network drive into the "projects folder you just created. Be sure to include all of the Maya project directory structure so that all associated textures and linked files are available to the renderfarm.

In the web interface to the renderfarm select "post new job". You will be asked to select the project that you want to post to the renderfarm. You can have muliple Maya projects stored on the renderfarm server and this is where you select which one you want to render. Once you are sure that you have selected to correct Maya project, click on "select this scene". If there are no projects available, then you need to double check that you have created your directories as described above properly.

In the window that opens, set the render job options that you want to use. Job name, render frames, image size, etc... When you have filled out this form, click on "post this render job" to send your project to the renderfarm.

You can check the progress of your render job by selecting "show job list". This will show you general progress information on your render job and you can click on the "Detail" button next to a project for more detailed information on your job.

You can also view where your job is in the render que by selecting "show schedule". You render job will be listed in relationship to all other render jobs that have been sent to the render farm.

When the rendering is completed, you need to copy or move the rendered image files back to your local or network drive. The rendered images can be found inside the Maya project/images folder on the renderfarm server. Inside the images folder there will be a new folder with the job name you specified that contains all of your rendered images.
