Baking Motion Paths

Issue:
You have a path animated object and you would like to convert the animation into keyframes so that you can delete the motion path and edit the animation in the Graph Editor.

Solution:
1) Select your object.

2) Go to the Edit menu > Keys > Bake Simulation, and open the option box.

3) Here you can set various options. If your object has children, you would probably want to set Hierarchy to "Below", since if you have it set to "Selected", it will bake the animation only on the object that is selected. For "Time Range" you can use the Time Slider length or else use Start/End and type in your own start and end times. "Sample By" is the number that will determine how often keys are placed on your object - sample by 1 means that there will be a key on each frame, sample by 2 will put a key on every second frame, etc. The documentation has more information about the settings here.

4) When you are ready, press "Bake" and your animation will play.

5) When it is done, you will see that there are now keyframes on your object. You can delete the object's motion path now because the animation has been "transferred" onto your object.

6) You can now clean up the animation curves on the object using the Graph Editor if it is necessary.
