DESCRIPTION
DXARTS 545 Digital Stereoscopic Cinema (5)
This course offers the opportunity for students to work directly with new innovations in 3D cinema, while also exploring the historical and artistic context of the form. Students will learn through lecture and seminar format, as well as through independent and collaborative creative projects that utilize cutting edge production facilities and equipment.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS
- Willingness to experiment and take genuine artistic risks.
- Ability to be resourceful, self-motivated, and self-disciplined.
- Ability to do substantial research and document that research.
- Ability to work with other students in a collaborative environment.
- Participation in all class activities (discussions, workshops, labs, etc.) is very important.
- You are encouraged and required to share knowledge amongst yourselves. Please be respectful, however, if someone is working hard and needs to concentrate.
- Taking notes in class is encouraged and will help you remember
what you've learned when you are working on your own time.
- Do not read email or surf the web during lectures and discussions - it's distracting to all of us!
PROJECTS AND GRADING
- Research (approx. 50%) - Including technical, historical, aesthetic, cultural, and production issues involved in the creation of digital stereoscopic cinema. Each student is required to contribute to general knowledge and documentation, as well as finding one of two area of specialization within the subject.
- Creative Work (approx. 50%) - Directing, producing, collaborating, realizing, documenting, or otherwise contributing to the making of creative stereoscopic work.
EVALUATION
- Contribution to the intellectual and artistic forum of the class.
- Amount of time spent and depth of engagement with material.
- Ability to use the techniques introduced in class in an innovative and inventive manner for creative assignments.

- There will be a required reading packet available for purchase the second week of class.
- Additional online readings will be indicated in the schedule.

POLICIES
- This is a graduate level class, and all students will be treated as such.
- No smoking in the classroom or building. No eating, or drinking in the labs.
- You are responsible for your data! Back it up, store it in multiple
locations, burn it to a disk, do whatever you have to do to ensure
it's integrity.

CLASS FORMAT
- Work and reading from last session including discussion, critique,
student presentations.
- Presentation of new materials including lectures, workshops, and other media material.
- There will be meeting/worktimes arranged for access to equipment outside of Friday meeting times.
