DXARTS 202: FUNDAMENTALS OF DIGITAL AND EXPERIMENTAL ART
Project Proposal (Due April 10th):
Write a 500 word description of the project you plan to work on over the course of this class. Constrain your description to the core conceptual ideas that you wish to communicate and how it is oriented within history and culture. Do not include technical information on how the project will be created unless it is crucial to communicating it's core ideas. IE: A scientific phenomenon or technique that is central to your concept. Details of construction and research methodology will be covered in your Concept Architecture at a later date. You should additionally include references to any historical, cultural or inspirational sources you are drawing upon in the form of footnotes, links or selected quotes. These should be in addition to your 500 word description.
Hints on form and presentation: Your first paragraph should effectively describe your complete idea without any details of it's execution. In my experience, you should plan on writing your entire proposal at least twice. Your first draft will almost always need to be condensed into what will become your first paragraph. Following the first paragraph should be elaboration on each of your core ideas and their social / historical connections. The final paragraph should re-define how everything ties together and leave the reader with a clear understanding of what you intend to communicate.
Concept Architecture (Due April 17th):
Deliver a multimedia presentation that illuminates as many different dimensions of your idea as possible. Your concept architecture should include: project objectives, cultural/historical influences, technical foundations, sketches/diagrams, equipment, budget, timeline, and bibliography.
Hints on form and presentation: Limit your presentation to approx. 5 minutes - i.e. do not verbally present every piece of information in your concept architecture document. Focus on the main points and any elements of your project you feel need feedback and discussion at this point. Present in a media-rich format - i.e. use of pictures, sounds (if applicable), video (if applicable), etc. You may either create a presentation or present off of your blog/web site. The material in your concept architecture should be included on your blog/web site in some way.
This should be a succinct, coherent, thorough presentation that provides a complete "blueprint" for your idea. After the concept architecture, you should be prepared to build your prototype and begin production.
Feedback Network (Due April 19 and beyond) :
Select between 3 and 5 projects within the class that you would like give feedback on throught the quarter. Email your list of choices to Max and Heather.
For the rest of the quarter, read and give feedback or commentary to the people you have chosen via blog comments or emails.
Project Prototype (Due May 3):
Present a short (1-2 minutes if time-based) iteration of your project. Your work should be as complete as possible. At the very least, present enough material to provide a "proof of concept" for your idea and demonstrate your proficiency with the majority of the tools/technologies you will be using.
